  • India developed Nag anti-tank guided missile and successfully tested from a helicopter platform. During the test, three-round trial of helicopter-launched Nag (HeliNa) missile were conducted at a Chandhan firing range in Jaisalmer in Rajasthan. The two of the trials successfully had hit the target while one had reportedly missed the target. Its range is 500m to 4km (Land version), 7-10km (Air-launched).

  • 12 days Godavari Maha Pushkaram is began on the banks of River Godavari in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh and it will be going till 25th July 2015. A unique thing about this is that it happens once in 144 years. Every 12th year Jupiter’s entry into the constellation Leo marks the Pushkaram for Godavari. The celebrations include reverence of ancestors, spiritual discourses, devotional music and cultural programmes. There was a huge stampede at Rajahmundry on the first day of the Pushkaram.  Nearly 27 people died in this unfortunate incident.

  • Lieutenant General Man Mohan Singh Rai was appointed as new Vice-Chief of the Indian Army. He will be succeeding Lt Gen Philip Campose, who is going to retire from services on 31 July 2015. He was commissioned from the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun, on 15 December 1976. Man Mohan Singh Rai is serving as Eastern Army Commander prior to this appointment. It should be noted that Army General Dalbir Singh Suhag too was the Eastern Army Commander before taking over the top post.

  • Four Indians were figured in the Asia 21 Young Leaders Class of 2015 list that was released on 8 July 2015 in New York, the USA where they will find mentors, potential collaborators, who are devoted to find solutions to most vexing socio-economic problems in the Asia-Pacific region. Four Indians who make to this list were :

i)             Aarti Wig – She is co-founder of the Indian arm of the Yunus Social Business (YSB), which was founded by Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Muhammad Yunus to create selfless businesses that tackle social problems.

ii)            Mishi Choudhary – She is a technology lawyer and an online civil liberties activist, is the founding executive director of SFLC.in, a pro-bono legal services organization based in New Delhi.

iii)           Manish Dahiya – He is the executive director and Global Head of Energy Complex at Noble Group Limited.

iv)           Sanjay Vijayakumar – He is the CEO of MobME Wireless Solutions, one of India’s most exciting and innovative mobile value-added service companies.

  • Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Simhastha Kumbh Mela started. This festival will end on 11th August 2015. The ceremony at Trimbakeshwar was presided over by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and state Women and Child Welfare minister Pankaja Munde as chief guests, while Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis presided over Nashik ceremony. This is a Hindu pilgrimage of faith where people take bath in sacred river.  Kumbh Mela is organized at one place every three years by rotation.  The four places are Haridwar, Allahabad, Nashik and Ujjain.

  • India and Georgia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for cooperation in the field of election management and administration signed by Dr. Nasim Zaidi, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of India and Ms. Tamar Zhvania, Chairperson, Central Election Commission of Georgia in New Delhi. The aims of MoU are as follows:

i)             Distribution and production of materials in the field of electoral systems, voting technology, voters’ education and awareness.

ii)            Exchange of materials, expertise, information and training of personnel for electoral purpose.

iii)           Promote participation of women and minorities in electoral process.

iv)           Promote exchanges of experience and knowledge in electoral processes.

  • Sayed Haider Raza was conferred with highest French Civilian Award Commandeur de la Lgion dHonneur (the Legion of Honour). Raza was bestowed with this award for his peerless achievements in transcending all boundaries, forging ties between France and India and for continuing artistic quest straddling nations, religions, cultures and philosophies.

  • Ranjit cricketer of Mumbai named Hiken Shah was suspended with immediate effect by BCCI after he was found guilty of breaching BCCI’s Anti-Corruption Code for participants and for making a corrupt approach to a fellow player from first-class cricket, who is also a member of one of the IPL teams. The approached player immediately informed the incident to his franchise team.

  • China has set up the world’s largest cancer registry system in a bid to fight the cancer diseases with more-targeted and evidence-based intervention programs. The cancer registry system is a systematic collection of data about cancer and tumor diseases of Chinese people. The registry records complete summary of cancer patient history including diagnosis, treatment and status of every cancer patient. However the registry excludes the medical costs.
  • Justice RM Lodha headed panel on IPL Betting Scandal 2013 suspended Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) for two years. Suspension of two times IPL champion CSK and inaugural winner RR comes with immediate effect. Raj Kundra and Gurunath Meiyappan are also suspended from cricket matches for life as they are found guilty of betting.

  • Former BSFI President Pashupatinath Roy passed away. He was 76 years old. He served BSFI in various capacities. Apart from this he was also the president of West Bengal Badminton Association for more than five decades. He was also the president of West Bengal Badminton Association for nearly fifty years.

  • Tamil music composer Manayangath Subramanian Viswanathan passed away. He was 87 years old. He did composing more than 1700 films in Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada goes to him. He was very popular for his collaboration with music composer T K Ramamurthy.  He is the one who introduced Ilayaraja and AR Rahman to the film industry.  He was suffering from breath related problems and breathed his last in Adayar, Chennai.  He is survived by four sons and three daughters.
