  • In an unprecedented move by the members of the United Nations General Assembly, 191 members out of the 193 have voted for a resolution condemning the embargo imposed by USA on Cuba for the last five decades. Even if the countries have resumed diplomatic relations, the financial restrictions are still in place. Only US and Israel have voted against the resolution that has been moved to protest against the stand of the most powerful country in the world
  • In a report published by the United Nations Framework on Climate Change, the temperature of the world is all set to increase by 2.7 degrees even if all the countries comply by their Intended Nationally Determined Targets (INDC) submitted to the UN organization. A total of 146 countries have submitted the plan and the UN report has made an aggregate of the contributions in order to understand the consequences of such an emission cut {module Google Adsence Responsive Anywhere}

Banking and Finance

  • After seeing the company through its biggest ever financial crisis in the history of the company, Spicejet Chief Operating Officer, Sanjeev Kapoor has decided to quit the company and he is going to resign today. The veteran in the industry is expected to join another airline very soon
  • In a boost to the public sector behemoth Indian Oil Corporation, the company has won the rights to drill the oil block in Mozambique along with the partner Delonex Energy which is mainly focused on oil exploration in African continent
  • The World Bank is upbeat about India growing at a moderate pace in the years to come whereas the estimates of the bank indicate that the country is going to see a growth of  7.5% in 2015-16 and it will increase to 7.8% in 2016-17 and 7.9% in 2017-18
  • The premier direct taxes body of the country, Central Board of Direct Taxes has decided to go ahead with hiring private consultant in order to take the view of an outsider in its attempt to become more taxpayer friendly
  • According to an announcement by Central Board of Direct Taxes, the investors in offshore rupee bonds are not going to face any tax burden on the capital gains that may arise from the bonds. However, this rule is only for domestic investors as the non-resident investors will continue attracting withholding tax in case of investments in these bonds{module Link Ads 200*90}

  • China has signed an agreement with Nepal for supply of fuel to the country in order to help it tide over the fuel shortage crisis in the country which has been multiplied by the strike of the Madhesi people in the Indo-Nepal border due to their dissatisfaction with the new constitution
  • Senior Indian Revenue Service Officer Najeeb Shah has been appointed as the new director of the Central Board of Excise and Customs, the highest decision making body of the country in terms of Indirect Taxes
  • Indian has recently signed an agreement with France in the area of conservation of written heritage that is there in the National Library of Kolkata. The agreement will see both the countries sharing the best practices of conservation with each other in respect of conservation of heritage
  • According to the report by the UN Asia Pacific regarding disasters in the region, it has been observed that 40% of the total disasters take place in the region, out of the total disasters taking place in the world. The report underlined the need for better coordination between countries in the region with respect to disaster management
  • Telangana Government has tied up with the IBM company so that the state can use the advanced cloud computing technology used by the company in order to give the students access to better quality material in the schools and colleges in the state
  • After years of criticism from all the quarters China has finally done away with the one child policy and has allowed the couples in the country to have two children. The policy of having one child in the family has been taken by the government in order to check population in the country which is the most populous country in the world
  • In a measure aimed at taking stock of the performances of the ministers in the government, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Akhilesh Yadav,  has sacked 8 of his cabinet colleagues and also reshuffled the portfolios of another 9 before the biggest ever reshuffle of the cabinet at the break of 3 years of the government
  • Central Government has decided to appoint a committee to solve the row of granting fellowships to research students who have not qualified National Eligibility Test. The committee is expected to submit its report by December 31, 2015. Earlier, the University Grants Commission has announced that it is going to discontinue the scheme of granting fellowship to non-NET qualified students
  • In a boost to the higher education sector in the country, the central government has decided to go ahead and provide funding to around 10 academic institutions of higher standing in the world so that they can grow in the next 10 years in world class institutions. The funding is expected to be in the range of 100-500 crore
  • Madhya Pradesh government has decided to increase the quota of women in government jobs to 33% from the present 30%. The cabinet note regarding the decision says that the government is committed to women empowerment as well as gender balance in its workforce in the years to come
  • The book “Indian Family Business Matters” has been released by the President Pranab Mukherjee in the Rashtrapati Bhavan. The book has been co-authored by Peter Leach and T Dixit

  • Hockey India has entered into an agreement with the Sports Authority of India with a view to promote the sports in the country. The agreement is valid for 3 years and under the terms of the agreement, both the organizations will work together towards promotion of the game in the country
  • Freedom of Net Report 2015 has been published by the Freedom Watchdog for the year 2015 as the report shows a decline of net freedom for the 5th straight year in the world. In respect of India, the report showed that India is partially free when it comes to Internet Usage freedom with the country scoring 40 out of a scale of 0 to 100 (100 being the lowest score)
  • In the WTA finals going on in Singapore, the world number one doubles pair of Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis has reached the 3rd round of the tournament after winning the 2nd round match in the year end tournament
  • INS Kalvari, the first of the series of 6 Scorpene Diesel electric attack submarines has been set afloat for sea trials at the Mazagon docks. The remaining five of the series will be delivered within 2020 and these submarines are going to be the backbone of the submarine arm of the Indian Navy for the next two decades
  • In a rematch of the World Cup Cricket finals, New Zealand will face Australia in the finals of the rugby world cup 2015 as the two sides have reached the finals after overcoming the hurdles. The blacks are the favorites as they are likely to win the title after 2011. Both the sides have won the trophy twice and whoever wins this edition will win the coveted trophy for the unprecedented 3rd time
  • In the recently released rankings of the World Badminton Federation, Indian shuttlers Saina Nehwal and K Srikanth are in the top 10 in their respective categories. While Saina has maintained the 2nd position, Srikanth has slipped to 5th after suffering some early exits in the recent competitions
  • According to a survey by KPMG Group, the 2015 edition of the Indian Premier League has generated the gross domestic product of Rs 11.5 billion for the country. The tournament has seen the participation from 193 cricketers around the world with the spectators base being 1.71 million
