  • After the MAT debacle, Income Tax department has set its lens on inbound Merger and Acquisition deals. As a result, around 40 companies have received notices from the department with a total tax demand of 4000 Cr
  • With a rise in the limit of outward remittances by individuals to $250000 in February, 2015 under the Liberalised Remittance Scheme, the first four months of the Financial year saw a total outward remittance of $769 million with the monthly remittance figures of July, 2015 standing at a record high of $380 million
  • For the first time in 8 years, India’s fiscal balance turned out to be surplus from deficit in August, 2015. The fiscal deficit stood at (-) 15808 Cr in the month indicating a surplus of revenue over expenditure of the government
  • An 18 year old Indian-origin boy named Ramkumar Raman has become the youngest ever chartered accountant in the history when he registered himself with a global body of chartered accountants after passing the required qualifying exams
  • With higher ceiling for government debts and securities coming in, Indian security market is looking at a $2.55 billion inflow of funds from foreign investors
  • At last, Apple stores are coming to India with its signature wooden tables. On a pilot basis, these stores will be launched with a partnership with Tata-owned consumer electronics chain Croma, at 6 locations

  • In a first of its kind, Bank of Baroda has decided to extend a financial support of 2 crore to the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmadabad to boost case research in the institute
  • German Development Bank KFW has signed a loan facility of $300 million in order to boost the  rural and micro-enterprise lending in India
  • Oriental Bank of Commerce signed a MoU with National Housing Bank in order to collaborate in the field of credit-linked subsidy scheme for housing –Housing For All
  • In a bid to widen the tax base to 1 crore new taxpayers in the current financial year as directed by the government, the Indian tax department is on a drive to ask traders and businessmen to come forward and pay advance tax instead of filing annual returns. This move is aimed at adding them as assesses well before the end of financial year
  • Insurance companies have come together to protest against the new move by IRDA that bars them to park their fixed deposits or certificate of deposits in the promoter banks. At present, the companies are allowed to invest a maximum of 5% of their investible funds with promoter banks
  • The government is mulling the Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) to be designated to investigate the cases related to frauds and willful defaults in Public-sector banks that  has seen a rise in the recent days

  • Veteran Communist leader K P Sharma Oli has been elected as the new PM of Nepal in an election where 587 lawmakers cast their votes. He defeated the incumbent PM Sushil Koirala by securing 338 votes
  • Belarussian PM Alexander Lukashenko has been re-elected to the office on Sunday for the fifth term of his political career though mass protests erupted against the last “European Dictator”
  • India and Jordan signed 6 MoUs during the President’s visit to Jordan. The agreements are in the field of maritime transport, IT and communication technology, cultural exchanges between the two countries
  • India and Maldives signed 2 MoUs when the external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj is on a visit to that country. The agreements signed are related to cooperation between foreign service institutes and youth and sports affairs
  • With a number of incidents of harassment by the recruiting firms and employers alike, the Indian labour community in Middle-Eastern countries is in for a relief because in the winter session of the parliament, the government is planning to introduce a New Immigration Bill that seeks to protect the rights of Indian citizens working abroad. It will replace the Emigration Act 1983, which is in force now
  • In a fourth extension of dates, the central government has allowed its officials to disclose their assets under the Lokpal and Lokayuktas Act 2014, till April 15, 2016
  • In a ruling, the Union Health Ministry has said that disabled daughters once married, cannot avail themselves of the subsidized medical facilities under the Central Government Health Scheme. However, a disabled married son is entitled to the benefit
  • In an unprecedented development, National Investigation Agency has asked the Ministry of Mines to provide them with a deep-sea exploration ship to help establish whether the Iranian boat intercepted by the Indian coast guards in July, 2015, had weapons and whether they dumped it into the sea
  • A lawsuit has been filed against the radio-taxi firm Uber in the District Court of San Francisco over allegations of compromising with the safety of women passengers by not running background checks on the drivers before hiring
  • October 11 is celebrated as the International Girl Child Day and the theme for the 2015 event was “The Power of the Adolescent Girl: Vision for 2030”
  • An Australian art gallery has agreed to give 2000 year old Buddha Sculpture to India after the Indian authorities requested for the same
