  • Today’s observed as Rizal day in Philippines. Rizal Day is a Philippine national holiday commemorating the life and works of José Rizal, one of the Philippines’ national heroes. It is celebrated every December 30, the day of Rizal’s execution at Bagumbayan, now known as Rizal Park, in 1896.

  • Today’s observed as ikram Ambalal Sarabhai, Father of India’s Space Programme, Death anniversary.

  • 40 bodies recovered from the crashed AirAsia plane in Java Sea only one person put on a life jacket would appear to indicate those on board had at least some time before the aircraft hit the water, or after it hit the water and before it sank.

  • From today Tamu Lhochhar, the biggest cultural festival of the Mahayana sect of Buddhism by the Gurungs at different places in Nepal with gaiety and fervor.

  • Mr. Sanjiv Sarin was appointed as Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Tata Coffee Limited from 8th January 2015. He succeeds Mr. Hameed Huq who is going to retire on 31st March 2015.

  • New Governor of Uttarakhand is Krishan Kant Paul. Earlier he acted as Meghalaya Governor.

  • New Governor of Mizoram is Aziz Qureshi. Earlier he acted as Uttarakhand Governor.

  • M S Dhoni, Indian cricketer announced his retirement from International Test Cricket with immediate effect at the time when Indian team is already playing a test series with Australia. He acted as captain for 60 of his 90 test matches. In 90 matches he made 4876 runs. He wants to concentrate on ODI and T20 formats. Virat Kohli will be the serving as Captain in test matches.

  • New CMD of Singareni Collieries is N.Sridhar. His appointment was approved Telangana CM KCR. He is 1997 batch IAS officer.

  • Union Government announced that Department of Disability Affairs (Nishaktata Karya Vibhag) was renamed to Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Viklangjan Sashaktikaran Vibhag).

  • Government has sanctioned around 568 crore rupees for the next three years to provide Soil Health Cards to 14.50 crores farmers.

  • ATM Facility is providing to Post office Savings bank Account holders. This facility is available only in post offices that are on CBS platform.

  • Saiyid Hamid, Educationist passed away on 29th December 2014 at the age of 94 years. He was the vice chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) after his retirement from the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) in 1980.

  • BG Verghese, Eminent Journalist, died. He won Ramon Magsaysay award.
