  • The absence of President Barack Obama or any top members of his administration from a huge march in Paris on Sunday to honour victims of Islamist militant attacks raised eyebrows among some in the US media.

  • The United States announced that it will host an international Anti-terror Summit in Washington which will be held on 18 February 2015 and will aim on preventing violent extremism that was seen in attack on Charlie Hebdo’s Paris office.

  • Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic won the 2015 Presidential elections of Croatia. He belongs to the conservative Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) party and is a former Assistant Secretary General at NATO and former Croatian ambassador to the United States.

  • Goa’s sports and youth affairs minister Ramesh Tawadkar said the government was planning to set up centres to administer treatment to the LGBT youths to make them “normal” after launching the state government’s youth policy.

  • The Election Commission on Monday sounded the bugle for assembly polls in Delhi, the second in the last 13 months. The state will go to polls in a single phase on February 7, 2015 and Counting of votes has been scheduled on February 10, and the poll process will be completed by February 12. Incidentally, President’s rule expires in Delhi on February 15 and will have to be extended if a new government is not formed by then.

  • Andhra Pradesh government constituted the Fourth State Finance Commission under the Chairmanship of M L Kantha Rao, the Professor of Economics and Dean S K University, Kankala Munirathna Naidu, Rokkam Sudarshana Rao, Gudipadu Sandhya Rani and C Venkateswara Rao: Member Secretary. It will submit its report for the period of reference 2015-2020.

  • Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha appointed as the 21st chief justice of Bangladesh. It was confirmed by the Bangladesh President Abdul Hamid as per Article 95(1) of the Bangladesh Constitution. He will succeed incumbent Chief Justice Md Muzammel Hossain who will retire on 16 January 2015.
